About Me

My photo
I am just a mom: a mom of three kids and one of them is hearing impaired. We are a busy family and I am a very busy mom. I want my hearing impaired daughter, Brooke, to have every advantage so I try to incorporate as many lessons and strategies into our every day life. Most of the teaching I do with Brooke is incorporated into our daily routines and parent-directed play. This blog will include some of our formal lessons but mostly it will be learning to listen in the everyday.

Day 1 - Christmas Advent

Day 1
Before tonight’s Advent activity, remove baby Jesus from the nativity set and wrap him in a small box.

Show the Old and New Testament portions of the Bible. Explain that in the Old Testament of the Bible, many people were anxiously awaiting the arrival of the King spoken about in the Bible. The Old Testament foretold the birth of God's chosen King and Savior.

Read Isaiah 7:14 and Isaiah 9: 6-7.
The Old Testament was telling us of Jesus! Explain that the New Testament is the fulfilling of the prophesies and shows Jesus' ministry and love for us.

Have your child unwrap the small gift box. Sing “Jesus Loves Me” and place baby Jesus in the Nativity. Jesus is the gift of Christmas.

Before bed, begin a 'Countdown to Christmas'. Show your child the advent calendar you will be using as a Countdown to Christmas

Read The Story of Christmas: a Little Golden Book
It is time to set up your child’s nativity set. Place it in a location that will encourage your child to play.
